I started this year teaching 4th grade at Betsy Rhodes Elementary School. During the first week of October, I transferred to Cadwallader Middle School. I, now, teach 6th grade mathematics. I am going on my 14th year as a school teacher. I have taught fifth grade (1 year), 2nd grade ( 6 years), and fourth grade ( 6 years). I have also taught 7th & 8th grade Reading as well as a computer class for Nova University. As you can see, I enjoy change. I love the challenge of teaching more than one grade level. As I incorporate more computer use into my classroom, I like to teach the older students. I believe our students need to have a solid grasp of technology to be successful in their future careers. I also work designing websites (only part-time) and teaching computer skills. My company is ARSiteDesign.
I was born and raised in Las Vegas, NV. I am a product of the Clark County School District and UNLV. I attended Crestwood ES, Fremont Jr. High, and the original Las Vegas High School. I then received my Elementary Education degree from UNLV. I served as the Education Senator during my senior year at UNLV. I learned so much from this experience and encourage all my students to stay involved and active in their education. I am a board member for the alumni chapter of the College of Education at UNLV.
I continued my education by obtaining a M.Ed. in technology integration in Education. In June of 2009, I received, yes, another M.Ed. This time my degree was in Educational Leadership. I also earned my TESL endorsement during this time at UNLV.
I have four sisters: Brigitta, Stephanie, LaRae, and Denise, my brothers: John and Bobby, two nieces: Mellissa and Lily, two nephews: Shander and Marcus, and a great nephew: Jeremiah.
I have a wonderful daughter. She graduated from Arbor View High School in June, 2011. Whitney loves dance and is on the Scarlet Dance Team at UNLV. She will be a freshman this year. We have one cat and one dog. Jigglipuff is 12 years old. She has been part of the family since she was 1 month old. Buster joined us last October. He is a mix between a pug and a beagle: a puggle for a muggle! Talk about a little pup with tons of energy! We can barely keep up with him. When he finally settles down at the end of the day, he snuggles up to Whitney and sleeps through the night (if the covers block out the light!).
The most important things to me are my family, including immediate, extended and adopted members. I also believe that it is extremely important to be a proactive member of my community and to give back and serve others whenever possible. I truly embrace the concept that "it takes a village" to raise healthy, happy, well-adjusted individuals!
